Teaching and Learning in Archaeology and Heritage

Monthly online round table sessions for sharing best practice in archaeological pedagogy

WHAT? We invite all those teaching in archaeology and heritage, around the world, to join these relaxed and informal online round table discussion sessions which focus on different aspects of teaching and learning in archaeology. The full schedule is below. These sessions are predominantly aimed at those teaching in Further and Higher Education, but all educators are welcome.

WHEN? Every month, for the foreseeable future. Please see the schedule below.

WHY? Our subject is practical, visceral, political and material. As a result, teaching archaeology presents a set of unique challenges. In the wake of COVID-19 we find ourselves faced with the additional challenge of teaching and communicating this in a largely online world. In these sessions we invite the global community of those teaching archaeology and heritage to come together, and to listen, learn and share best practice to overcome these challenges.

Organisers

These sessions are organised by Prof Hannah Cobb (University of Manchester, UK) and Prof Karina Croucher (University of Bradford, UK). We have been working together for nearly two decades, researching archaeological pedagogy, particularly with a focus on field practice, and diversifying archaeology. Our work takes an explicitly post human feminist perspective, and we have recently developed a pedagogic approach which we term “learning assemblages”. You can read more about our latest project here.
